Dallesport Elementary School-Full of HOPE

Hopefulness is our "middle name!"

As the new K-12 Superintendent/Principal in the Lyle School District in Washington State, every day brings a new "first."

Wednesday, July 29th was the first time that I was lucky enough to meet with my entire elementary staff.....all six teachers and 5 para-educators who are committed to making a difference for the kids in our community. This year is exciting!

We have some HUGE buckets we're working to fill on behalf of our kids!
  • We're developing a standards based report card so that parents know how their kids are doing in relationship to the appropriate grade level standards.
  • We're implementing a new, K-6 English/Language Arts Curriculum to ensure alignment to the standards. http://mhreadingwonders.com/
  • We're continuing with our work to implement Eureka Math (Engage NY) http://greatminds.net/maps/math/home so that our Lyle kids can compete with mathematicians anywhere!
  • We're transforming our student discipline system to be a system of positive behavior supports and restorative justice as we create the most positive "ethos" imaginable at Dallesport ES.
Having worked in many schools and districts over the past 25 years, typically this much change would be met with resistance and fear.....below are the "HOPES" that are staff articulated at the end of a long, long day.

Hopes of the Dallesport Staff for 2015-16

  • I hope that our students will be more confident in their abilities!
  • I hope that our parents will have faith in our district!
  • I hope that our test scores get much better!
  • I hope that our students will be meeting standards and above!
  • I hope that family will be engaged and know how to help their children show how great our school really can be!
  • I hope that our school will be strong and working as a solid team, all headed in the right direction!
  • I hope that our students will be confident and making great strides in their learning!
  • I hope we will see growth in each student!
  • I hope that we will create a safe and respectful learning environment!
  • I hope that I'll improve student learning and have the proof to show it!
  • I hope that we will put in place a comprehensive educational plan for all our students!
  • I hope our school will be seen as a positive place for kids to learn and that our scores will dramatically improve!
  • I hope that at the end of the school year students will have learned and understood what they were taught!
  • I hope that each of our kids will enjoy school!
  • I hope that everyone will believe in our students and staff and school!
  • I hope that the Lyle School District enrollment will increase due to innovative programs, structures, and a positive, challenging academic culture!
  • I hope that 85-90% of our students will be at grade level or above in math and reading proficiency!

As a new leader in a new district, HOPE is the first step to success.

I can't wait to see what the new reality will be in Lyle School District #406 where #ALLmeansALL

  1. There it is that incredibly powerful word, HOPE. that's what I hope our team can bring to our students. That they see it, feel it and believe by watching adults actions that HOPE lives in each one of us. We educators are tending the most important garden filled with precious youth let us do our best job.
